Connie Combs Barrel Racing
March has been a busy month. I had a great time in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. Just outside of Edmonton. Maxine Rusnak owns Still Meadows Ranch. Of course, there was snow and yes it was cold. But she has a heated indoor arena so that makes riding in the winter a everday thing at SMR.
Maxine hosted the Connie Combs Canadian Classic. Lorna Kiff made a awesome run. When she started the first day at the clinic, we always make a run. Well if she did not hit all 3 barrels she was suprised. So we changed some things up, including her bit. By the time we worked a couple of days her horse looked and ran totally different. It showed in her final run on Saturday running the fastest time and winning the saddle.
Thanks to everyone for a great time of barrel racing and learning.
March 29 and 30th was the 8th clinic Missy Moreland has hosted. This clinic had a lot of drama. Good and bad, but in the end, it only showed us how caring people really are.
We got in a lot of work, we were indoors since that part of Oklahoma has been flooded with rains.
We were in Beggs, Oklahoma near Tulsa. I have to say the ground was the best I have seen it. The final runs were awesome. Some of the runs went from 18's to 14's. I try to teach to be competitive and quit training unless you are on a colt, then there comes a time on them you have to quit all the training.
Thanks to everyone for a good clinic, we have one planned again next year.
Mt. View, Missouri was hosted by Heather Wilson. Heather will also be helping me with my clinic in Ohio. Of course we had lots of rain, it was outdoors, but Heather has hauled a lot of sand in so the ground stayed solid.
I always tell everyone, look for the good in everything. So if the ground is safe when it is wet, teach your horse how to handle it. If you rodeo, chances are you will run in it at some point. I will have to say, everyone was great with their attitude and as the saying goes "cowgirled up".
My clinic here in Comanche, Oklahoma is in about 1 month, May 10 and 11. We will be giving one of my saddles and other awards. It should be a good one!
Thanks to everyone for working so hard with your horse's and doing something for your horse. Learning how to ride and be better with them.
