CLINICS: WHAT TO EXPECT

Connie

This will be a busy year for clinics. If you are coming to one of my clinics and have never been here is what to expect:

Get ready for a lot of hard work and riding. Get to the clinic early enough so your horse will be warmed up. Relax and enjoy riding. Nerves create tension and stress which will carry right over into your horse. You are coming to the clinic to become better and understand your horse better.  Breathe so you can relax!

When you make your run, don't worry. If you mess up we will work on correcting it. Part of learning to get better is working through your mistakes and learning how to correct them. I have a couple of young horses I am hauling and will go through some of the same things as everyone else. Part of making a great horse is going through the adventure! That is what everyone is forgetting. The seasoning process is for the horse and rider. Ii is a training process in itself.

Last but not least, ask questions. If you don't understand something or feel you need extra help ask. You only get out of it what you put into it. And have a open mind. I tell everyone if you think you know it all, you have not ridden enough horses. Hopefully your horse will have great basics so we don't have to think "Do we need to go to the round pen?' Round pens are great, I use them on all my horses. But when I start finishing work, my basics should be easy. Your horse should stop and stand straight without getting mad. Back straight and work straight lines. This is the start to teaching your horse how to work correct.

Be sure to bring 2 water buckets. Horses drink a lot of water when you ride them this much. Know your horse and if you think you need to take a break, feel free to do so. Spring is here, be sure to take your horse to the vet and get their spring check up and keep up with your worming program.

Look forward to meeting everyone!
